Women’s African Champions League : Disillusion Again!

Coach Kpoumie Oudou and his FC Ebolowa players now face a bitter reality as their dream of making history in Cameroonian women’s football was dashed in heartbreaking fashion. The club entered their final match in the 2025 UNIFFAC zonal qualifiers needing just a draw to secure qualification for the final phase of the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League. However, in an upset, FC Ebolowa was defeated 0-3 by Equatorial Guinea’s FC 15 de Agosto on September 29, 2025, abruptly ending their promising campaign and hopes of progression.
Leading up to this pivotal encounter, FC Ebolowa had emerged as strong favourites, after four consecutive wins. The squad’s confident performances sparked optimism throughout the country, with many convinced this was the moment Cameroonian women’s club football would finally break through on the continental stage.
From the very first whistle, however, FC 15 de Agosto asserted their dominance. Playing at home, they were fuelled by a passionate crowd whose support spurred the team forward. The visitors found themselves on a tight corner throughout much of the first half, struggling to contain their opponents’ attacking threats. By the time the halftime break arrived, the hosts led 2-0.  In the final minutes, hope swiftly turned to despair when FC 15 de Agosto scored another goal, sealing a comprehensive 3-0 win. This result underscored Cameroon’s continued frustrations in women’s club football; a cycle that has now extended to five consecutive CAF Women’s Champions Leagues without Cameroon. In fact, Cameroon has never qualified for the competition since its inception.
