Election Campaign : Exploring Last Days

Candidates in the Presidential election have six days left to convince the electorate in their favour.

The election campaign enters a last and decisive stage this week. Beginning this Monday October 6, candidates in the race for the Presidential election have six days (till midnight October 11). Since September 27 when campaigns were officially launched in accordance with Section 87 of the Electoral Code, candidates and their representatives have been seen organising public meetings to present their political manifesto for the country, with the aim of attracting voters. Going by the law, the campaign period is two weeks and the first week just elapsed. The second and last begins today and it is the moment candidates of the different political parties have to fine-tune their strategies. Usually, the first week serves as a stock taking phase and the second week would be for the improvement of loopholes, all to the benefit of the candidate. 
In addition, it is the time for candidates or their representatives to make ample use of the media time allocated to them by the Minister of Communication. Indeed, prior to the commencement of election campaigns, a Ministerial Order to determine the running order and set out the air-time allocated to candidates within the framework of the electoral campaign slots on public audio-visual media for the election of the President of the Republic on 12 October 2025 was made public. Going by the document, the global air-time reserved for all candidates on public audio-visual communication media during the said period is one hundred and twenty (120) minutes per day on radio and sixty (60) minutes per day on television. This is reasonable time to convince an electorate on why a vote should be cast in your favour, by making known your projections for the nation if elected President of the Republic. Some candidates or their representatives have been very serious about using the allocated airtime to transmit their political messages to the voters, address political issues and propose solutions to problems affecting the lives of the population.
