Narcisse Kouokam : Tributes To The Fallen Hero

Cameroonian artists and filmmakers gathered in Essos, Yaounde, over the weekend to honour the memory of the late artist who died on August 10, 2025.

A quiet yet celebratory atmosphere filled the hall of Othni in Essos, Yaounde, on October 3 where friends, fans, and colleagues gathered to pay tribute to the beloved humourist, Narcisse Kouokam who passed away on August 10, 2025 due to illness. 
The talented artist began his career in the corporate world, working as a communicator at Crédit Agricole Bank. However, his passion for art and humour eventually led him to pursue a career in comedy and writing. He was known for his roles in films like “The Last Journey” (1990), “Claire or the Child of Love” (2015), “Africa, I Will Pluck You,” a documentary about political repression in Cameroon and Central Africa, as well as “Deputy,” where he played the iconic role of a successful trader who gets into politics and is appointed to the National Assembly. This movie later earned him the nickname “Honourable” amongst his fans.
At the tribute, attendees shared memories of him through video projections of some famous excerpts, discussing his inspiration, creative process, and unique style. “He had a perfect mix of simplicity and subtlety,” noted film director David Noundi, a panel member. “He drew from real-life experiences to highlight problems and spark change, using nuanced language that encouraged deeper thought.” Several participants also highlighted that he was an artist who deeply valued his cultural heritage and traditions, yet was also adaptable to his modern surroundings.
