Maroua : Enthusiastic Population Await Paul Biya

Representatives from the three northern regions, especially supporters of the CPDM, are already in the Far North Regional capital to commune with their leader ahead of October 12.

Maroua, the capital of the Far North Region, is boiling with an unusual effervescence as huge crowds of people from the three northern regions, mostly supporters of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM), converge therein. This is in view of today’s highly-awaited visit of President Paul Biya is his double capacity as incumbent President and candidate of the CPDM in the upcoming Presidential election. There is thus visible euphoria to give the visiting Head of State and their party leader and candidate for the October 12 Presidential polls a hectic reception as he meets the people this Tuesday October 7, 2025.
Elite and local administrative authorities have over the past days been redoubling efforts to ensure that all is set for the visit. While the elite, led by Honourable Cavayé Yéguié Djibril, Speaker of the National Assembly and Regional Campaign Chair for the Far North Region, are mobilising their militants and making sure all and sundry are represented, the administration under Governor Midjiyawa Bakari is leaving no stone unturned for a hitch-free Presidential visit.  CPDM militants representing the Sections of the party across the Adamawa, North and Far North Regions are already in Maroua bracing up for a memorable communion with their party’s flagbearer in the upcoming Presidential election. A few that spoke to Cameroon Tribune in Maroua said they have come ready to hear from their champion and to solemnly declare their unflinching support to him for the decisive polls.
In the meantime, the city is being given a new coat of paint as workers of the different council areas in Maroua are ensuring hygiene and sanitation as well as employing all the necessary beauty tolls worthy of the Head of State and CPDM party candidate for the election. All these are supervised by the City Mayor of Maroua, Sali Babani, who has been criss-crossing all sites to be sure that all is set. At the Municipal stadium, theatre of the Biya-people communion, for instance, the City Mayor was seen coordinating works, ensuring that CAMTEL and ENEO installations are in place.
