2026 Women’s AFCON Qualifiers: Cameroon On Tight Corner

The Indomitable Lionesses were beaten by Algeria 1-2 in the first leg match of the last round qualifiers played yesterday in Oran, Algeria.
It was a rough evening for the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon yesterday October 23, 2025 at the Miloud Hadefi Stadium in Oran, Algeria. The Cameroonian team was unfortunately defeated by their Algerian counterparts 1-2 in the first leg of the last round qualifiers of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). This defeat is no good news for Cameroon as they will be heading into the second leg match billed for Douala on October 28, 2025 with evidently more stress on their shoulders. They might have to completely change the play-style that did not work in the Algerian expedition. The Lionesses played as though they did not understand the stakes of the game. Having missed the previous Women’s AFCON, Cameroonians expected to see a determined team hungry for victory. Rather, they presented a heavy and unconvincing play-style. They began with a good tempo that was easily surmounted by the Algerians, who on their part, were more collective and mastered the subject matter. Ghoutia Karchouni and Marine Dafeur scored the two goals for Algeria in the first half. But what was even more aching was the manner in which the goals were scored; all through free-kicks. This evidently questions the competence of goalkeeper Ange Bawou, whom fans are blaming for not placing well her walls and her incapacity to read the balls.
