Post-electoral Climate : Imams Promise Peace Promotion

The Muslim clerics from the Centre, South and West Regions were received by the Prime Minister, Joseph Dion Ngute on October 24, 2025.
On October 24, 2025, the Prime Minister Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute had a working session with Imams from the Centre, South and West Regions, who at the end of deliberations promised the promotion of peace and social cohesion in their respective communities. The delegation was led by the Grand Imam of the Yaounde-Briqueterie Central Mosque, Mohaman Saminou, and discussions at the meeting focused on the need for the Muslim preachers to use their proximity to the population and hammer home the need for peace, tolerance and the respect for nationhood after the proclamation of the results of the October 12 Presidential election.
The Imam of the Central Mosque No.2 of Bafoussam, Jounedou Noureudine Sine offered a surat of peace in the presence of the Prime Minister and 11 other Muslim clerics.
Speaking to the press at the end of the working session, Prof Souley Mane, Imam of the Essos Mosque said they principally discussed issues of peace with the Head of Government. “We all agreed that peace is priceless and everyone should bring his contribution to the building of peace in our country. As you know, our country is facing a very difficult moment and so we as Imams are supposed to sensitise our people to practice peace before and after the proclamation of the results of the Presidential election. This is because elections pass but Cameroon remains. So we should be the peace makers in our country and the principles of living togetherness and unity should be our motivation,” the Muslim cleric stated.
