South West : Tranquillity Engulf Major Localities

The streets of Buea and other towns in the region were quiet, void of any protests by opposition party supporters or celebration by the party declared as winner of the October 12 polls.

The city of Buea woke up this Monday 27th October 2025 with a bright sunshine on bare streets as denizens remained indoors for fear of the unknown. Driving from Mile 17 to the Police Roundabout in Buea town, the stretch was largely deserted as businesses and public offices were all shot down. The empty streets scenario which was far from what used to obtain on usual Mondays ghost town was prompted by the announcement by the Constitutional Council to officially proclaim results of the October 12 presidential election on October 27. As tensions heightened especially after one of the contenders declared himself winner even before the official publication of results, and called for streets protest to defend their votes, citizens in the South West Region opted to stay indoors.  The majority of Buea resident glued to their TV sets at home or in private places to follow the live broadcast of the proclamation of results over CRTV.
