Presidential Election : Paul Biya Triumphs Again

He is set for another seven-year term after the Constitutional Council proclaimed him winner during a public audience on October 27, 2025, clinching 53.66 per cent of the total vote cast.

“As per the votes cast, the candidate Paul Biya is proclaimed winner of the Presidential election,” read the President of the Constitutional Council, Clement Atangana on October 27, 2025 during the session to proclaim the results of the election of President of the Republic of October 12, 2025. The results were read per region and the diaspora, with four other members of the Constitutional Council (Florence Arrey, Adolphe Minkoa She, Aaron Logmo Mbelek and Emile Essombe) assisting the President in the proclamation process. 
President-elect, paul Biya scored 53.66 per cent of the total votes. As per the election results, a total of 12 candidates participated in the race and the runner-up is Issa Tchiroma Bakary, National President of the Cameroon National Salvation Front (FSNC) and former Minister of Youth Employment and Vocational Training under the Biya administration, with a score of 35.19 per cent. Official statistics by the Constitutional Council present a participation rate of 57.7 per cent and an absenteeism rate of 42.24 per cent. In absolute terms, over eight million people are registered on electoral registers, but only over four million six hundred thousand people effectively cast their vote for the Presidential election. After reading the results of the different regions and the percentage recorded of each candidate therein, they were later tallied as per the performance of candidates on an overall basis. 
After Paul Biya and Issa Tchiroma, Cabral Libii comes in the third position with 3.41 per cent. Bello Bouba occupies the fourth position with 2.45 per cent and is followed by Patricia Ndam Njoya with 1.66 per cent. Joshua Osih emerged in the sixth position with 1.21 per cent. The seventh, eighth and ninth positions are respectively occupied by Ateki Caxton (0.47 per cent), Samuel Iyodi (0.40 per cent), and Serge Matomba (0.35 per cent). Jean Jacques Bougha is tenth with 0.30 per cent while Pierre Nkwemo occupies the eleventh position with 0.28 per cent and Akere Muna on the 12th spot with 0.22 per cent. 
With regards to the diaspora, Paul Biya recorded 44.13 per cent in Africa, 24.09 per cent in Asia, 25.67 per cent in the Americas and 22.63 in Europe. Issa Tchiroma on his part respectively scored 54 per cent, 68.21 per cent, 66.75 per cent and 62 per cent in the aforementioned continents. 
The President-elect, Paul Biya, according to the official results, recorded his best score in the South Region (his region of origin) with a percentage of 90.46. It is also the region that recorded the highest participation rate with just 11 per cent of absenteeism registered. He secures another landslide victory in the North West Region with 86.31 per cent, East Region with 73.8 per cent and Centre Region with 70.14 per cent, thus giving him an upper hand above the other candidates.
