The Douala General Hospital is poised to become the leading center for knee replacements in Central Africa. This is evident with the numerous capacity-building initiatives, training, and transfer of technology to local staff over the years. With this, the local staff is well equipped to carry out even complicated cases of knee complications. In effect, patients suffering from knee problems have been called upon to go to the Douala General Hospital to be treated at affordable prices, as the hospital has also benefited from support from the Ministry of Public Health and international partnerships. Thus, there is hope for a brighter future for patients in need of orthopedic care.
The hospital now provides total knee replacements, a significant medical initiative aimed at improving the lives of patients suffering from arthritis and debilitating knee pain. So far, they have successfully operated on numerous patients, with a goal to expand access to essential surgical care.
Speaking to Cameroon Tribune recently, the head of the Department of Surgeries and Specialties, Prof. Fokam Pius, emphasized that they are determined to operate on as many patients as possible and to ensure that Cameroonians benefit from the advanced technology available at an affordable price.
