Ban on Sachet Whisky Drinks: Affected Consumers Back Government Move

For years, cheap sachet whiskies have been widely available in neighbourhood shops and roadside kiosks, making it easily accessible to low-income earners and youths. An alcohol addict who has gone through health complications, Martin Difon, says the government's action has given him hope that fewer young people will experience the suffering he endured. "I started drinking sachet alcohol because it was affordable and easy to find. I never imagined it would control my life. It affected my health, my work and my family. I support the government's ban because many youths are being trapped by these drinks before they realise the consequences". Another former consumer of sachet whisky, Roland Ngono, also believes the ban is ne­ cessary despite the inconvenience it may cause some consumers. "After battling alcohol dependence and spending money on treatment, I now understand the importance of the decision.
