National Gender Policy: Regional Focal Points Better Equipped

E xperts from the Ministry of Women Empowerment and the Family were in Bamenda on July 15 , 2026 to train Gender Focal Points to effectively implement the National Gender Policy at the level of their various institu­ tions. In her opening statement the Sub Director for the Promotion of Gender; Kendemeh Vivian Jioy on behalf of the Minister of Women's Empowerment and the Family, saluted partici­ pants for the keen interest demonstrated in this regard. She said," The integration of women and girls as well as men and boys' needs in our institutions cannot be done by the Ministry of Womens Empowerment alone". The im­ plementation of this policy concerns all administrations, civil society organisations (COSs), traditional and religious leaders as well as all Came­ roonians. She told participants that other regions have gender focal points already trained and this was the opportunity for the North West Region. So, by the end of the workshop they will understand their role and responsibilities better. On his part, the North West Regional Delegate of Womens Empowerment and the Family, Wirba Hassan disclosed that there was need for the session considering that most regional services still do not master the National Gender Policy where they are concerned.
