National Roads 5,6: Pavement, Management Efforts Intensify

The Minister of Public Works, during a working visit to Adamawa and West Regions from August 31 to September 1, urged contractors to abide by technical guidelines.
T he minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi during a two-day working visit to the West and Adamawa Regions last August 31 and September 1, 2026, evaluated the paving and bi tuminization projects on the 152 km Banyo-Mayo Darle-Bankim stretch of road in the Adamawa Region; the upgrading and maintenance work on the 42 km Foumbot-Foumban corridor in the West Region both on the National road Number 6; and the Critical Point Treatment Works on National Road Number 5 stret ching the Bandjoun-Bafang- Nkam Bridge-Bekoko road axis. On the na tional Road number 6, efforts to enhance the paving and bitumini zation of the Banyo-Mayo Darle- Bankim corridor have intensified. Minister Nganou Djoumessi on Au gust 31 revealed that the project that kicked off on May 12, 2026, with a running budget of over FCFA 4 billion, has recorded a 4.63 per cent work completion rate. 29.32 per cent gone into the 12 months allocated time, the 152-kilometre project is currently 95.37 per cent away from completion. Similarly, upgrading and maintenance work on the 42 km Foumbot-Foum ban corridor in the West Region is currently underway. The 12 month project that began on July 12, 2025 with a cumulative funding of over FCFA 6.8 billion seeks to ensure the continuity of traffic between the West and Adamawa Regions, improve the level of service on a section of the National Route between Foum bot (toll plaza) and Foumban; has recorded a 53 per cent completion rate leaving over 47 per cent of earmarked portions incomplete.
