Telemedicine: Cameroon Sharpens Its Best Skills

A s part of the celebration of International Telemedicine Day, the Ministry of External Relations was host to an expe­ rience-sharing workshop on Sep­ tember 23, 2026 under the theme; “Telemedicine in the Service of Equitable Access to Care: The Ex­ perience of the Recover Foundation in Africa.” It was organised in part­ nership with the Recover Founda­ tion in Africa, a civil society orga­ nization working in health coope­ ration in Cameroon since 2007, which aims to sustainably streng­ then the capacities of health faci­ lities and their staff to improve ac­ cess to quality care for people, es­ pecially the most vulnerable. It was chaired on behalf of the Minister of External Relations, by the Se­ cretary General, Chinmoun Oumarou, in the presence of the Ambassador of Spain to Cameroon, Juan-Pedro Pérez-Gómez Delaunay. Telemedicine, it should be noted, is the practice of caring for patients remotely using electronic informa­ tion and communication technolo­ gies when the doctor and patient are not in the same room. According to the General Manager of Recover Foundation in Africa, Marta Mara­ non, the objective of the conference was to present telemedicine as a tool that makes it possible to ensure effective, fair, and quality access to healthcare, even in the hardest- hit areas and for people who are least mobile and farthest from health systems. She explained that this will be made possible through partnerships with health facilities in Cameroon. More specifically, she said it will involve highlighting the approach and impact of the Recover Foundation's telemedicine offering in Africa, sharing experiences and progress in digital health and en­ couraging a collective and thorough discussion with all stakeholders for better integration of telemedicine into health systems in Africa.
