Flame of Mutual Respect

Memories are still fresh on the declaration of the famous Burmese politician and former political prisoner, U Win Myint, who now serves as the 10th President of the Republic of Myanmar since 30 March 2018. This is what he said on the occasion of the United Nations day on 24 October, 2018; " This great international organization was established as a solemn pledge of the peace-loving nations to work together to maintain world peace and security; to develop friendly relations amongst nations and to improve the lives of their peoples; and to foster mutual respect for each other...."The dust raised by the incident that pushed the French leader into utterances towards the Cameroonian Head of State considered by many as undiplomatic risks remaining afloat for a considerable length of time. This is however not the wish of many who continue to think the declaration of President Macron must have just been a slip of the tongue, something which is not abnormal in a friendship.
As rightly stated by the Myanmar leader, citing the UN, real friendship requires mutual respect and it is this mutuality that nations and their leaders strive to achieve knowing it's a powerful factor of long-lasting cooperation. The whole philosophy behind the spirit of mutual respect is driven by the zeal to eschew the development of an air of marginalisation among nations. In effect, the United Nations Charter knows no small nor big nation even though some have been accorded veto powers. But from every indication, this was done as part of effort to contain excesses that might emerge and jeopardise World peace. The World body to which almost all nations of the World are members, is so conscious about the equality of nations to an extent that leaders of all countries have equal opportunities to address the World from its pulpit during ordinary sessions.
