Regional Mobilization

Despite numerous calls, moves by World leaders and civil society activists to stop the degradation of the ozone layer, the end of the fight seems to be far fetch as many counties in the World and Africa in particular are witnessing unusual mutation in climate change leading to heavy rains. A few weeks ago, heavy, incessant rains pelted the East Africa Region, giving rise to floods and mudslides that killed dozens of people and drove thousands from their homes. Meteorologists blame the extreme rainfall on higher than average temperatures in the Indian Ocean. Though Tanzania lost nine people to the floods, the damage and loss of life was far worse farther North. In Kenya, tens of thousands of people have been driven from their homes, and in Rwanda, more the 72 people have lost their lives in mudslides and flooding. In Uganda, Ethiopia and Somalia the story is not different. Floodwaters and mudslides have destroyed houses, washing away bridges and straining critical infrastructure.
