Economic Viability of Youpwe Wharf

It has the capacity to re-establish Douala as a true waterfront city and tourists destination.

One of the activities in the economic capital that is hardly spoken of but whose contribution to the economy of the Littoral Region is strongly indisputable is the numerous business activities taking place at the Youpwe Wharf.
The wharf that is under construction since the past three or five years is a 100 metres development (or less) along the creek of the Atlantic Ocean at Youpwe. The wharf activities shifted to a temporary site a few metres from where construction is going on.
This temporary site serves as a melting pot for small business and hundreds of people travelling by locally-made wooden and engine-enhanced boats to and from the island locality of Manoka in the Douala VI Subdivision per day between 5am and 6pm. The main business activity is fish selling- fresh fish, smoked fish, as well as the scaling of fish and the export of swim bladder of certain fish to Nigeria.
