Cross-border Conservation: TRIDOM Has Much To Show!

Vast swathes of lush Congo Basin rainforests in Cameroon, Congo-Brazzaville and Gabon have for 17 years enjoyed coordinated, sustainable management. Thanks to Tri-national Dja-Odzala-Minkebe cross-border biodiversity conservation initiative.

The trans-boundary conservation initiative between the three countries has brought enormous benefits to local people through community and council forests, and logging concessions, which enjoy high levels of sustainable management. Made up of protected areas in Cameroon (Dja Wildlife Reserve), Congo Brazzaville (Odzala National Park) and Gabon (Minkébé National Park), TRIDOM covers 178,000 square kilometres or 10 per cent of the Congo Basin rainforest.
The Cameroon portion of TRIDOM covers 49,000 square kilometres. TRIDOM comprises 11 protected areas – including Boumba-Bek National Park, Nki National Park, Ngoyla Wildlife Reserve and Mengame Gorilla Sanctuary in Cameroon. And Mwangne National Park in Gabon.
