Germany : Redemption Quest

The four-time World Champions who came into the 2018 World Cup as defending champions were booted out in the group phase and hope to better this performance in Qatar.

In the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Germany had the disappointment of the century. The four-time winners of the showpiece came in as defending champions but were prematurely eliminated in the group phase. Losses to Mexico and South Korea put them on an early flight home. They should have kept this nightmare in their minds and would have taken the strong commitment to reverse the trend when they became the first country to book a spot in the 2022 FIFA World Cup after hosts Qatar. 
But the journey ahead is evidently challenging because they are pooled in Group E alongside European powerhouse Spain and growing teams Costa Rica and Japan. Their image as the second most successful country and at their 20th appearance in the World Cup might be enough to tremble opponents but their recent outings are proving the contrary. Getting kicked out in the second round of the Euros and finishing third in their Nations League group, are performances that offer little optimism.
Head Coach Hansi Flick and his men therefore have a hill to climb to show that they have woken up from the Russian nightmare especially with injury concerns in the squad.
