Boosting Poultry Production : 3,000 Chicks For Persons With Disabilities

The North West Development Authority (MIDENO) handed the three-week-old chicks during a ceremony in Bamenda recently.
Some 30 beneficiaries with varied disabilities and caregivers of those living with disabilities in the North West Region have been supported with three-week-old chicks to improve their lives and even safeguard the future of their families. This gesture is the fruit of a partnership between the Socio-economic Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SEEPD) of the Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Services (CBCHS) that was signed in 2022 to make life meaningful to them.
The General Manager of MIDENO Anye Cletus Matoya explained that they are working with the Socio-economic Empowerment of Person's with Disability Programme of the CBCHS to ensure that they have something they can depend on thereby alleviating poverty in the society. It was also disclosed during the ceremony that the recipients were carefully selected and some of them have owned farms before. The boss of MIDENO said they handed over the chicks and feed that could enable the beneficiaries to take care of the chicks till when they are ready for the market. He added that, “they are strong agents of development and while empowering the normal population, they need to also empower persons with disabilities so that they have something they can depend on.
Speaking shortly after receiving the support, most of the beneficiaries couldn't hide their joy as they said it was a sign of relief.
