The fans clubs of the different higher institutions are using song, dance and dressing to pass educative messages and promote Cameroon’s diverse culture.
“No to occultism in the University Milieu”; was the message echoed by the University of Buea fans club on May 1, 2023. But before one could look at the board carrying the message, their attire catches the eye. They were all dressed in black with red pieces tied around their arms. What was most attractive and at the same time scary was the coffin they carried along. It was covered in red. One would have thought it is empty but no, it contained a human being dressed like a dead body. He was calm, not moving any part of his body as if he was dead.
The fan club toured the campus and will stop occasionally to demonstrate. They will drop the “corpse” on the ground, move around it several times. It was a clear imitation of an occultist Nigerian movie. This attracted several people who were eager to know what was happening. And this is how the fans club of the University of Buea as well as other fans clubs have been using several strategies to galvanise their athletes to victory but at the same sending out educative messages.
