Dr Laura Matabot Egbe Besong : CEMAC Bids Adieu To Leading Vet Doctor

The little mortuary chapel of the General Hospital, Ngoussou-Yaounde could not contain hundreds of mourners who trouped to the facility to pay their last respects to Dr Laura Matabot Egbe Besong. The veteran Veterinary Doctor died in South Africa on April 11, 2023, at the age of 54 years. Less than a month after Heads of State of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community, CEMAC, appointed her Executive Secretary of the Ndjamena, Chad-based Economic Commission for Cattle, Meat and Fish Resources, CEBEVIRHA in CEMAC at their recent summit in Yaounde on March 17, 2023. Prior to the appointment, Dr Laura Besong was Technical Adviser No. 1 in the Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries. 
The Head of State, His Excellency President Paul Biya, was represented at the coffining ceremony by Alamine Ousmane Mey, the Minister for Economy, Planning and Regional Development. Other dignitaries included the Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, Dr Taiga, and Mengot Victor Arrey-Nkongho, Minister in charge of Special Duties at the Presidency.
In his exhortation, the priest said Laura loved Christ, believed in God and understood the meaning of death. And is happy where she is today.
