Kenya-Cameroon : The Cameroonian Dream Dashed

The Lionesses were defeated 3 sets to 1 in the semi-finals yesterday August 23, 2023 at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports complex.

Cameroon’s dream of clinching a fourth consecutive title has been dashed by nine-time champions, Kenya. The Malkia Strikers were too strong for the Lionneses in the semi-finals game yesterday August 23, 2023 at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex to win 3 sets to 1. (25-27, 25-14, 25-11, 25-18)
The Lionesses expressed high-level fighting spirit in the first set as they held their opponents to doom. Cameroon scored the first point, lined up two others, but the Kenyans fired back. The two teams started following each other back-to-back. The Kenyans later took the lead and just when they thought they had won, the Cameroonians equalised to prolong the set. There was a lot of pressure as the duo were eager to get the two-point difference when the game got to 24-24. The pressure and tension multiplied, but the Lionesses kept their calm to win the set 27-25.
The Kenyans came back in the second set for revenge. They reduced the pressure in the services given that they lost a lot of points in the first set due to poor serves and ball outs. They equally made use of the spaces created by the Cameroonians to spike in points. The Malkia Strikers were evidently more experienced forcing the Lionesses to loss concentration and confidence. Before Cameroon could discover, their opponents had already dug the gab making catch up very difficult. Despite last minute efforts, the set ended in favour of the Kenyans. The Kenyans succeeded in their blocks, spikes and smashes.
