The Road To Peace

On April 15, 2023 what began as rumour became a reality. The rivalry between the Army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) exploded to a full fletch war. Like wildfire, fighting that started in Khartoum spread to other major areas; the Darfur region as well as parts of Kordofan and Blue Nile states became bloody battlefields. A flurry of diplomatic initiatives to halt the war has failed to yield any concrete results as the rival sides are locked in a battle for survival with both sides thinking they can win. In May, the two warring sides agreed to send negotiating teams to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to start talks brokered by Riyadh and Washington. At least 16 ceasefire agreements followed, but each of them collapsed. As the Jeddah talks failed and fighting continued, the African Union (AU) unveiled its own plan. Then came the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), negotiation attempt followed by the Egyptian Summit on July 13, 2023. 
Five months after the start of the crisis that has led to the killing of over 3,000 people, 2.6 million internally displaced and 750.000 forced to flee to neighbouring countries, both sides seems to have realized that fighting is not the solution to the crisis. For the past weeks apart from the two leaders, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and Hamdan Dagalo expressing their wish to see the return of peace in the country, they have earmarked different strategies.
