African Judo Open-Yaounde 2023 : Cameroon Bags 22 Medals

The seventh edition of the competition ended at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex on Sunday November 19, 2023.
The Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex was the venue of the seventh edition of the Yaounde African Judo Open that rounded off on Sunday November 19, 2023. Organised by the African Judo Union (AJU), the competition brought together 116 judokas from 16 countries. It was an opportunity for the inhabitants of Yaounde and its environs to discover new techniques in the sport and also to detect young talents. The competition that kicked off on November 16, 2023 ended in a rather positive note for the Cameroon judo teams. The competition unfolded in the women’s and men’s categories.
After two days of intense competition, Senegal, Cameroon and Morocco formed the top three in the overall ranking. In the senior women’s and men’s category, Cameroon judo team finished on the second spot with 22 medals; three gold, eight silver and 11 bronze. Senegal was first with five medals; four gold medals and one bronze and Morocco came third with two gold and two silver medals. The President of the Cameroon Judo Federation (FECAJUDO), Alain Christian Kingue expressed satisfaction with the performances of the athletes. He said Cameroon is in a process of rebuilding a national judo team. As a result, 95 per cent of the team is made up of juniors.
