North West : 1, 300 Rice Tons Collected By UNVDA

This was revealed during a ceremony to mark the beginning of paddy rice harvesting and land preparation for rice farming in Ndop on January 5, 2024.

The Upper Noun Development Authority, UNVDA, on Friday January 5, 2024 organized a ceremony to launch the harvesting of paddy rice and preparation of land for rice farming at the headquarters of the organization in Ndop, Ngoketunjia Division.
Speaking during the ceremony, the General Manager of UNVDA, Eric Adangfung said the collection of paddy rice has improved this year as compared to last year as 1,300 tons have been collected already as opposed to 700 tons at the same time last year and more is still coming. He said in order to fulfil President Biya’s recommendation to boost national production and stop the importation of rice, the UNVDA has acquired new equipment such as rice trans-planters that do not use current and can be paddled like a bicycle to reduce labour, imported two rice polishers from Germany, mini combined rice harvesters of 75 kilograms per cycle, two rice mills and winnowers to winnow the rice of farmers for free. He said the UNVDA will also be providing purified seeds and subsidized fertilizers to farmers that will increase yield.
