Fighting Maritime Crime : Spanish, Cameroonian Marines Join Forces

The Spanish warship, which arrived in Cameroon on 7 October, will stay until 14 October to build the capacity of the Cameroonian Navy in the latest ways to combat maritime crime.
The fight against piracy and all forms of maritime insecurity along the Gulf of Guinea is at the heart of the Spanish Warship Bam Meteoro P41, which arrived in Douala's seaport on 7 October and will remain in the city until 14 October 2024. For a week, the Spanish and Cameroonian navies will exchange experiences and the Cameroonian navies will be trained in new ways and new technologies to fight maritime crime. The initiative, led by the European Union, aims to strengthen military relations between the two countries.
During an exchange meeting in Douala on 8 October, the Spanish Ambassador to Cameroon, H.E. Ignacio Garcia Lumbreras, said they came to Cameroon to strengthen ties and look for more ways to work together in the fight against maritime insecurity. He said the exchange had given them the opportunity to share experiences and ideas. He took the opportunity to thank the Cameroonian authorities for their hospitality, based on more than 15 years of military cooperation between the two countries in securing the Gulf of Guinea.
He added that Spanish vessels have been carrying out missions in the Gulf of Guinea, but they couldn't do so successfully without the support of Cameroon and other countries.
