Scientific and Research Days : Professionalism Required

The fourth edition of the Scientific and Research Days has ended with a resolution for medical practitioners to be more professional in order to reduce the rate of hospital-acquired infections, which stands at 15-20% worldwide. The conference, which took place from 8 to 9 November, was held under the theme, "Hospital Acquired Infections: Challenges and Perspectives in 2024".
For two days, through plenary sessions, workshops, debates and discussions, physicians and paramedics tackled various topics such as "Aspects of sepsis", "Management of multidrug-resistant infections in the regions", "Infections associated with catheters, diagnosis and therapeutic difficulties", "Prevention of healthcare-associated infections, pragmatic approach", "Hand hygiene/management of patients carrying multidrug-resistant bacteria", to name but a few.
During the opening ceremony on Friday 8 November, the Deputy Director General of Douala General Hospital, Professor Kedy Mangamba, reiterated that healthcare-associated infections can be prevented if practitioners remain professional. She hoped that after the conference, participants would improve their practices.
The President of the Organising Committee, Prof. Tchente Nguefack Charlotte, said hospital-acquired infections are a challenge for most countries in the world and it is important for them to discuss different ways, methods and strategies to put an end to the phenomenon which is responsible for 15% of patient deaths...
