Football Clubs : Government Offers FCFA 560 Million

The government of Cameroon has made available the sum of FCFA 560 million to clubs being subvention for the payment of salaries of players registered in the MTN Elite One and MTN Elite Two championships for the 2024-2025 sports season. The announcement was made yesterday January 21, 2025 in a press release signed by the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi. The press release stipulates that in view of seeking the best ways of meeting the needs of the clubs and a greater mastery of the distribution of the funds to the beneficiaries, the subvention will be served directly to the teams affiliated to the said championships to help pay players’ salaries.
Also in line with the conclusions of the concertation of the ad hoc committee of December 18, 2024, the Minister of Sports and Physical Education invites club presidents of the 33 clubs concerned, notably 16 in Elite One and 17 in Elite Two to submit within 72 hours as from yesterday, a bank statement of their association to the Accounting Officer in the Ministry of Finance with FECAFOOT, 2/3 reserved for those of Elite One and 1/3 for those of Elite Two. Also, an expense report will be required from each association. In this light, FECAFOOT also published a press release announcing the subvention but gave seemingly broader preconditions for the giving out the funds. The federation says the Association of Cameroonian Footballers (ANFC) will proceed to verifying the number of professional players within the clubs.
