2025 U17 AFCON : Lessons Of A Disappointing Exit

The Cadet Lions of Cameroon were booted out in the group stage, missed qualification for the world cup, finishing bottom in Group B with no game won in three matches.


It is the end of the road for the U17 Lions of Cameroon at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in this category. The cadet Lions put up a rather dismal performance during the group stage. They were beaten 1-2 by Egypt during their last group B game that took place on Sunday April 6, 2025 at the El Bachir Stadium in Mohammedia some 30km from Casablanca. Following the defeat, the U17 Lions are not only eliminated from the U17 AFCON but also from the FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar in November. Egypt that lost against South Africa finished third and qualified for the play offs. 
Still in group B, Burkina Faso and South Africa finished first and second and qualified for the quarterfinals of the AFCON and the World Cup. Burkina Faso finished on the first spot with nine points followed by South Africa with four points, Egypt three points and Cameroon one point. With two defeats and a draw, the U17 Lions ended last in their group. A rather disappointing result for the cadet Lions that had hopes of going far in the competition after their excellent performance in the UNIFFAC Tournament.
