La Francophonie : Cameroon Displays Cultural Prowess In Canada

This was during a cultural festival to grace this year’s La Francophonie week in Ottawa, Canada.

Cameroon's rich cultural heritage was recently displayed in Ottawa, Canada on the occasion of this year’s La Francophonie Cultural Festival. The festival was an occasion for Cameroon’s High Commission in Canada to showcase the cultural worth of the country best known as “Africa in miniature.” This was during an event that took place at Lycée Claudel, the only French-speaking secondary school in Ottawa on March 27, 2025. The event brought together a diverse audience to celebrate cultural diversity from French-speaking countries in the world and was animated with a colourful march past involving all the participating countries; each carrying its flag.
Cameroon’s stand at the festival was a reflection of the nation’s rich and cultural diversity, captivating an array of enthusiastic visitors. Cameroon’s High Commissioner to Canada, Phillip Ngole Ngwese, led a delegation of his staff to the festival, proudly showcasing the country’s unique traditions to hundreds of keen visitors. Featuring on Cameroon’s booth was a display of intricate handicrafts, cultural artifacts and traditional costumes. Culinary enthusiasts were also delighted through the sampling of signature local dishes such as “Ndole”, “beans and puff-puff”, “fish rolls” etc, representing a true taste of Cameroon’s rich cuisine legacy. Also, brochures and souvenirs were handed out to visitors, with highlights on some of Cameroon’s must-visit destinations; portraying what is today referred by many as “Africa in Miniature”.
