Training In Professional Institutions : Need For Favourable Environment

Students aspiring to get admission in professional institutions in Cameroon’s 11 State Universities and other higher institutions of learning under the academic supervision of these universities already know the calendar for the various entrance examinations. The Minister of State Minister of Higher Education, Professor Jacques Fame Ndongo who doubles as Chancellor of Academic Orders signed the decision communicating the calendar of the entrance examinations into the various institutions on April 7, 2025.
The Minister of Higher Education’s decision demonstrates government’s determination to promote technical, vocational, medical, mining, communication, peace and development education in Cameroon’s higher education system. That is why focus is on training that ranges from higher polytechnic, biomedical sciences, wood technology, higher technical teachers training schools, geology and mining, mass communication, cultural, peace, development and international security. All these sectors targeted in the country’s higher education sector that are further complemented by training offered in the plethora of private and religious higher education institutions are intended to boost Cameroon’s development, resilience and make graduates job creators instead of the hitherto job seekers. The policy also aligns with government’s resolute drive for Cameroon to attain the emergence status by 2035.
As in the previous years, hundreds of thousands of young Cameroonians will be knocking at the doors of the higher professional institutions. They all have legitimate dreams to get lucrative jobs, as well as be self-employed and be job creators upon graduation. Parents and guardians do spend and are still ready to spend millions of francs CFA to enable their children get the best education in order for them to be bread winners of their families and be agents of development in society. The pride of every parent is to have as many graduates as possible from these domestically prestigious higher institutions of learning and more importantly to have them in lucrative jobs.
The thousands of students who are already in the professional institutions and those aspiring to gain admission therein need favourable environments at all levels. A professional certificate needs to be backed by the corresponding skills and knowledge that can enable the certificate holder transform classroom knowledge to concrete projects. Gone are the days of speaking good language and quoting intellectuals of yesteryear. Now is the time to transform classroom knowledge into projects, industries, factories and businesses intended to offer concrete solutions to society’s unemployment and development needs. Government and its partners therefore have to, with regard to public professional institutions, provide adequate and state-of- the art tools and infrastructure needed to enable graduates be society’s transformers as well as its positive shakers and movers.
