African Judo Championhip : Cameroon Wins Seven Medals

The 46th edition of the African Judo Championship rounded off at the Treichville Sports Center in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire on April 27, 2025.

One silver and six bronze was the medal harvest for Cameroon during the 46th edition of the African Senior Judo Championship that ended in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire on April 27, 2025. Organised by the African Judo Union (AJU), the competition brought together 190 athletes from 24 countries on the continent. After three days of intense competition, Cameroon bagged home seven medals; one silver and six bronze.  Mbiami Zita Ornela in the -70kg category won the lone silver medal for Cameroon. Cameroon was represented by 10 athletes; six women and four men. 
During the first day of the competition on April 25, 2025, four Cameroonian athletes were in the ring. In the -73kg category, Kom Teddy made it through the preliminaries before being beaten in the quarterfinals by Moroccan Hassan Doukkaly, who won by ippon. However, the Cameroonian athlete was drafted in again, and managed to beat Guillaume Dadie from Côte d'Ivoire in this stage. Unfortunately, Kom Teddy lost in the third place final to Algeria's Mehibel, who won by ippon. In the women's category, Fiona Nsame Mbongo and Audrey Etoua Biock were beaten in the preliminaries by ippon, in the -52kg and -63kg categories respectively. Marie Céline Baba Matia, who reached the quarter-finals, was also eliminated. She however seized the opportunity to beat Hassan Abdou from Niger, before continuing on her way to the bronze medal, won in the final for third place in that category.
