Preserving Forests Remain Vital

Fako (Buea) - South West Regional Delegation for Forestry and Wildlife together with actors in environmental protection have commemorated the International Day of Forests (IDF), for 2025 edition. This was on March 21, 2025, at Bilingual Grammar School (BGS) MolykoBuea. Students of BGS environmental club in a sketch displaced various forest products such as bitter kola, eru, country onion, honey, bush pepper etc. They explained the nutritional value of each to mankind. The 2025 edition was celebrated under the theme “Forests and Foods.” It puts the spotlight on the forest, celebrating their crucial role in food security, nutrition and livelihood. South West Regional Delegate for Forestry and Wildlife, Christian Manga-Bell Epie, said the forest has three main services that includes the social, economic and ecological. The connectivity between forest and food include the direct contribution in the diet of forest dwellers and those living afar off. That the International Day of Forests was therefore an opportunity to mark the multifunctional nature of forests, and to raise awareness of the need to preserve them.
