Girls, Women's Rights: Shared Vision, Concerted Action

Plan International Cameroon and the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family signed a framework partnership agreement to the effect on June 3, 2025 in Yaounde.

In its efforts to ensure that the rights of the Cameroonian girl child and woman are promoted and protected by various stakeholders, Plan International Cameroon on Tuesday June 3, 2025 in Yaounde signed a partnership agreement. With the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family, MINPROFF. The Minister of Women’s Empowerment and the Family, Prof. Marie Therese Abena Ondoa, signed for MINPROFF. While Mohamed Ibrahima Bah, Plan International Cameroon Country Director, signed for his organization.   

 

Proud Of Their Resilience 
“It is a very important step in our collaboration with the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family… It is a strategic alliance to tackle some challenges faced by girls and women in our society,” Ibrahima Bah noted. Adding that after operating in the country for over 29 years, Plan International is proud of the resilience of Cameroonian women and young girls in the face of serious challenges.

 

National Priority  
“The agreement is testament of the fact that sustainable change demands strong collaboration. It is also a promise made to Cameroonian girls and women,” Bah pledged. “The promotion of girls’ and women’s rights is a national priority,” Minister Abena Ondoa underscored. Promising that the agreement will strengthen public action and the initiatives of Plan. “Cameroon’s Vision 2030 seeks to make women key actors of development,” the Minister emphasized.  

 

Shared Vision, Decision 
“The agreement is a shared decision to provide the best for our children, especially girls,” Prof. Abena Ondoa went on, listing intended activities as including the fight against HIV/AIDS, working with councils to tackle the ghost children phenomenon…

Partnership Objectives 

Meanwhile the objectives of the framework partnership agreement are to assure the fight against Gender-based Violence, GBV, empower girls and young women with development skills, strengthen child protection… Both parties will also share documents and information on their respective interventions, and provide each other technical and institutional support as appropriate.
As well as develop joint projects where necessary, ensure coordination and complementarity between their interventions, grant access to facilities and give priority to the promotion of gender equality and inclusion.

 

Previous Similar Deal
Plan International Cameroon and the National Council of Cameroon Traditional Rulers, CNCTC on Wednesday March 12, 2025 in Yaounde entered a partnership to protect the rights of women, children, the girl child and to foster education and community development. The event was chaired by a representative of the Governor of Centre Region, Mr. Djawa Emmanuel. The ceremony held in the hall of Yaounde I Subdivisional Council in Etoudi, Yaounde.
