Industrial Development: Councils Sign Partnership With MAGZI

A support agreement was signed between the Industrial Zones and Management authority and the United Cities and Councils of Cameroon in Yaounde on June 3, 2025.
The Industrial Zones and Management Authority (MAGZI) and the United Cities and Councils of Cameroon (UCCC) signed a new industrial partnership in Yaounde on June 3, 2025. The signing took place on the side-lines of the Economic Days of Councils (JEICOM 25) unfolding at the Yaounde Conference Centre from June 2 to 4, 2025. The ceremony brought together representatives from several Councils across the country for discussions under the theme: “Creation of zones for industrial activities by councils: The role and mission of the Industrial Zones and Management Authority.” The agreement stems from the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Law of July 25, 2023 which grants local Councils the legal authority to engage in such partnerships for developmental projects. This landmark legal framework has opened the door for Councils to play a more direct role in Cameroon’s industrial expansion. During the session, MAGZI held practical workshops with Mayors and Council representatives, with development experts, guiding them through the stages of project development. From identifying viable ideas and suitable land to conducting market research, attracting funding, and launching construction. Land acquisition and financial limitations were highlighted as common challenges, and MAGZI responded by presenting multiple land appropriation and financing models adapted to local realities.
