Empowering Auditors : Stakeholders Push for Recognition

This was during the national auditor’s conference that took place in Douala from June 5-6.
Over 120 auditors from both the public and private sectors convened in Douala for a twoday national conference organized by the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Cameroon. The conclave that ran from June 5 to 6 was aimed at strategizing on enhancing the auditing profession amidst current challenges. The conference theme, "Good Governance of the Enterprise: Auditors as Champions of Change and Responsibility," underscored the critical role auditors play. Thesling Dohnayi Nuseh, President of IIA Cameroon, asserted that internal auditors are not mere observers or compliance checkers but rather catalysts for innovation, and defenders of sound corporate governance. "We are uniquely positioned to bridge the gap between risk and opportunity, between control and innovation, between aspiration and accountability. Our mission is not only to evaluate but to enable, to ask the difficult questions, to shine a light in dark corners, to help organizations not just avoid failure but to build trust, create value, and drive sustainable success,” he explained. Mr Nuseh articulated a clear vision for the profession which is to elevate internal audit, affirm its relevance, and establish its rightful place as a cornerstone of good governance and public trust. In addition, he detailed ongoing projects by the global IIA and the African Federation of the Institute of Internal Auditors aimed at structuring and advancing the profession across Africa. These initiatives include the development of an internal audit practice model to enable self-regulation in various countries.
