Rev. Dr. Teke John Ekema, the Executive President of the Cameroon Baptist Convention, CBC, on June 29, 2025, formally welcomed the church into CBC membership after 8 years of suspension.
Salvation Baptist Church, SBC Obili, Yaounde, which was founded in 2010, has been readmitted into the membership of the Cameroon Baptist Convention, CBC - after its suspension that lasted at least 8 years. Salvation Baptist Church was suspended in 2017 after failing to meet its financial commitments to the CBC.
A Moment To Relish
There was therefore great joy on the faces of SBC members and a hilarious celebration ensued on Sunday, June 29, 2025 as the church was formally welcomed back into the fold of the CBC. An act that was performed by no lesser person than the Cameroon Baptist Convention Executive President, Rev. Dr. Teke John Ekema. In the presence of the CBC Deputy Chairperson, Mrs. Sofa Caroline; the Pastor, Yaounde Field Council of CBC Churches, Rev. Jumbuin Enoch and Yaounde Field and Yaounde South Association officials. And Salvation Baptist Church Acting Pastor, Prince Mundi, and the Appointed Deacon, Lontum Emmanuel.
The Lord’s Making
“This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it,” the CBC Executive President cited the Bible. He said the labour of Christians of Salvation Baptist Church has not been in vain. Rev. Dr. Teke John reminded the church of the CBC’s unique identity – its motto, vision, mission and the Church Covenant. Which he led worshippers in repeating.
Back Into The Fold
“Salvation Baptist Church is a bond of love, grace and fellowship to celebrate love and God’s grace,” Rev. Dr. Teke John noted. Before going ahead to declare Salvation Baptist Church formally readmitted into the membership and fellowship of the Cameroon Baptist Convention. To the laud applause of the congregation.
Successful At Last!
“Finally, Salvation Baptist Church, Obili has been readmitted into the membership of the CBC after 8 years of suspension. Unfortunately, the Senior Pastor, Rev. Dr. Chafah Victor, is in the United States of America and could not attend the event. What a joy for a church which lost fellowship to get back into the fold! We are so elated! They are expected to prepare and submit documents to the CBC to be raised to a full-fledged church. The church currently has a membership of 200,” Rev. Jumbuin disclosed.
Unpaid Dues
“We have been trusting God for the return of Salvation Baptist Church, Obili, Yaounde to the Cameroon Baptist Convention. In 2017, Salvation Baptist Church did not pay its financial dues to the CBC and was suspended until June 2025,” Rev. Jumbuin Enoch explained.
Constitutional Amendment
However, in the 2023 CBC Constitution, an amendment was made, requiring that when a local church fails to honour its financial commitments to the CBC, its leadership will be suspended, and not the whole church. Because it was found out some church leaders take decisions without the knowledge of their congregations, Rev. Jumbuin said.
Celebrating The Woman
“It was a great dual occasion – the celebration of the CBC Women’s Department Founders’ Day anniversary and the lifting of the suspension of SBC’s membership of the Cameroon Baptist Convention. It was so exciting! We have not celebrated this anniversary for years. The high point of the celebration was that the CBC Executive President, Rev. Dr. Teke John Ekema, was present in service to declare our church formally readmitted into the CBC.
Evident Joy
“This gave us a lot of joy and strengthened our place in the CBC fold. This joy was evident in the congregation,” Lontum Emmanuel, the Appointed Deacon of Salvation Baptist Church, Obili, Yaounde noted.
Glory Returns To Him
“The suspension lasted several years. We made attempts to be readmitted, but we were not successful. This time around it worked and we thank God. We thank Jesus for leading us through the period of suspension. No one can take the credit, for the glory is His, not anyone’s. From now on, Salvation Baptist Church will participate actively in CBC activities at the association, field and convention levels,” Lontum Emmanuel pledged.
Forgiveness That Releases
In his message from Mathew 6: 14-16 and II Corinthians 5: 16-21, Rev. Dr. Rudolf Banglis, preached on “The implications of God’s gospel ministry,” which are outlined in regeneration, reconciliation and righteousness. He said forgiveness is so powerful because it releases from captivity. “Forgiveness is unconditional, but has great benefits; benefits of being a new creature of God,” Rev. Dr. Banglis noted.
Reasons To Celebrate
It was thus a double celebration in Salvation Baptist Church, Obili, Yaounde on Sunday, June 29, 2025. As the church also celebrated the Cameroon Baptist Convention Women Department’s Founders’ Day – the anniversary of the department’s creation in 1957.
38 Women Dedicated
Resplendent in their CBC Men’s Department white T-shirts and the CBC Women’s Department leaf-green “kaba” outfit, the day saw the dedication of 34 women into the membership of the CBC Women’s Department. Following weeks of lessons and mentoring by women leaders from Yaounde South Association - under the guidance of Yaounde Field women leadership.
Readmission Attempts
Following the suspension of Salvation Baptist Church, Obili, Yaounde in 2017, the church’s founder, Rev. Dr. Chafah Victor in November 2021...
