Electoral Operations In Cameroon : UN Special Envoy Expresses Optimism

Abdou Abarry, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Central Africa, was received on June 27, 2025 by External Relations Minister, Mbella Mbella.

The Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Central Africa, Abdou Abarry, in Cameroon for a working visit, has been received by the Minister of External Relations, Mbella Mbella. Discussions between the two personalities centred on electoral operations in Cameroon and the security situation in the sub-region. 
In his statement to the press, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Central Africa said he was at the Ministry of External Relations to brief the Minister on the conclusions of the two-day consultation meeting he attended with various stakeholders of the electoral process in Mbankomo. “As you know, I am in Cameroon within the framework of the launch of the multiparty process which has to pave the way for the start of electoral operations in Cameroon. For two days, we held a meeting in Mbankomo with Elections Cameroon and other stakeholders in the electoral process including political parties and the civil society. I came to brief the Minister on the conclusions of the consultation,” Abdou Abarry stated. According to him, as Cameroon prepares for the organisation of the Presidential election in October 2025 and other subsequent elections in the near future, there is no doubt that the polls will be a moment to consolidate peace, stability, social cohesion and other things needed for the development of this country.
