Immigration : Joint Efforts To Curb Ill, Assist Immigrants

The government and its partners have put in place several programmes to sensitise and assist citizens who decide to return after a failed adventure abroad.


Immigration is becoming a complex issue nowadays especially as many people are victims to fraud and anarchy in the hands of those who promise them greener pastures abroad.  However, the government of Cameron and its partners have not left any stone unturned to sensitise the population against immigration especially when the circumstance is doubtful. Also, joint efforts from the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the government have sought to assist those who decide to return home after a fruitless immigration mission. 
Through the European Union and International Organisation for Migration (EU-IOM), joint initiative for the Protection and Reintegration of Migrants funded by the European Union, the IOM has been committed to supporting the Government in providing assistance to migrants, with respect for their dignity and human rights, in order to achieve the goal of a mutually beneficial migration. The implementation of this initiative has benefited from the support of the Cameroonian government, particularly through the Ministry of External Relations (MINREX) and a number of other technical ministries. In this light, MINREX and the Ministry of Social Affairs (MINAS) in collaboration with IOM have launched initiatives to support and raise awareness amongst migrants and returnees. 
Information also indicates that the Ministry of Social Affairs has developed programmes to support vulnerable populations, including migrants and returnees, with a focus on social protection and inclusion.
