Presidential Election : Evolution Explained To Diplomatic Corps

External Relations Minister Mbella Mbella briefed bilateral and multilateral partners of Cameroon on the subject on July 30, 2025.

As Cameroon gears up to the October 2025 Presidential election and within the framework of 
constant consultation and communication with the diplomatic corps, External Relations Minister, Mbella Mbella presented an overview of the electoral process and its evolution. In his statement on July 30, 2025 at the Ministry of External Relations, the Minister told the diplomats that government has urged all stakeholders to be responsible and ensure that peace which is cherished by all prevails before, during, and after the election.
Quoting President Paul Biya who has continually stated that “We shall all pass away, but Cameroon shall remain,” the Minister said the country is governed by the rule of law, in compliance with its international commitments. He assured the diplomatic corps that government is putting in place every mechanism to guarantee an inclusive and hitch-free electoral operations. At the institutional level, the Minister said Elections Cameroon (ELECAM) and the Constitutional Council are the two main stakeholders in this crucial political moment of Cameroon. “Our diplomatic missions and consular posts are fully mobilised to facilitate voting abroad for our compatriots established in your respective countries,” Minister Mbella Mbella stated. He added that Cameroon shall not elect its President under pressure from any group, country, power, international organisation or institution whatsoever, neither under the influence of any ethnic group, religious denomination or language. “The President of Cameroon shall be elected by the people of Cameroon, as a whole, united in its diveristy, a country that remains one and indivisible amidst this diversity. Therefore, I urge your respective countries, the United Nations system, African Union, European Union, OIC, La Francophonie, Commonwealth and other solidarity circles, to stand by our country in this process,” the Minister said.
