Russia-Ukraine Crisis : No Deal Yet…After Trump-Putin Summit

After three hours of discussions in Alaska (United States), the two leaders have promised to continue talking.

The United States President, Donald Trump on Friday, August 15, 2025, met with Russian President Vladimir Putin at a Summit in Alaska (United States). The three-hour meeting which was the first since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, ended without a ceasefire declaration. At the end of what they described as “constructive talks”, the two leaders gave short only statements and left without taking questions from journalists. While President Putin said the pair had come to an “understanding”, the host President Trump said, “There’s no deal until there’s a deal”. To go by the Russian leader, their next meeting is expected to hold in Moscow (Russia) soonest. 
Though nothing much trickled from the highly discussions, the positions of both leaders with regards to solving the crisis have not changed. The United States President, Donald Trump wished that the Alaska discussions center on permanent peace and not a ceasefire, because a ceasefire can be broken at any time stands. “It was determined by all that the best way to end the horrific war between Russia and Ukraine is to go directly to a Peace Agreement, which would end the war, and not a mere Ceasefire Agreement, which often times do not hold up,” Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social platform after holding phone conversations with European Union and NATO leaders.
Russian President Putin has not moved an inch in his demands. His declaration, “The conversation was very frank, substantive, and, in my opinion, brings us closer to the necessary decisions,” is an indication that Moscow is not ready to make any...
