Basic Education : Authorities Gear-up For New School Year

Staff and stakeholders of the Ministry of Basic Education are working tirelessly to shape a brighter future for pupils and society as a whole, navigating the complexities of the ever-evolving digital landscape. This endeavour took centre stage yesterday, August 21, 2025, in Yaounde, as they intensified preparations for the 2025-2026 school year under the theme "Educating to Transform: Inclusion, Peace, and Unity for Global Development.
The Minister of Basic Education, Laurent Serge Etoundi Ngoa, initiated the discussions, highlighting the gathering's objective: to examine the challenges faced by teachers and pupils during the previous academic year and propose improvements for the 2025-2026 academic year. The Minister emphasized the importance of reviewing the commitment made by the Head of State to the United Nations through UNESCO to transform the country's educational system. "We are assessing the extent to which schools are implementing this transformation, with a focus on pedagogy, financing, and administrative processes," Professor Etoundi Ngoa explained. As the new school year approaches, the Minister urged his collaborators to remain calm, vigilant, and confident in the country's future. "Regardless of the electoral outcome, our development objectives will remain unchanged. We must stay focused on the ideals of unity and peace," the Minister stressed.
Responding to the challenges posed by digitalization in education, Prof. Etoundi Ngoa stressed that digital transformation in education must not compromise fundamental skills like reading, grammar, and writing.
