Stop The Manipulation!

Since the close of the polls for the October 12, 2025 Presidential election, Cameroonians and the world at large have been awash with social media publications, taking almost all directions. As everyone is king and queen on the social platforms, almost all is loaded thereon for public consumption, irrespective of the consequences and in total defiance of the law.
In fact, supposed election trends from this or that locality is the hot topic on social media now. Sycophants of different candidates have hijacked the social spaces to feed the population with what they call their “victories” in this or that polling station or locality. Obviously, they single out only results from where they are said to have won. Telling the public that you or your candidate have won in Polling Station “A” without emphasizing that the centre or locality had up to Polling stations “D” is utterly deceptive. This has the propensity to upset the population, especially when final results do not reflect what the “trends” projected.
Elections are won through all-round facts, obtained on the ground, after full gathering and not the social media frenzy that the public is reduced to at moment. How authentic are even some of these trends, in an era of artificial intelligence where everything is possible, should be an eye-opener for consumers of the social media scoops. The fact that there are even conflicting statistics from same polling centres in some localities published by some social media men casts doubts on the validity of some of the so-called trends. Members of the public absolutely need to watch out, for, they may just be fabrications of trouble-mongers. Irresponsible indeed!
This is, to say the least, pure manipulation and the public should be able to resist the digital deceit even as the powers that be swing into full action to uncover and punish the perpetrators.
Government had earlier warned against what is happening now. In effect, in the heat of the campaigns for the election, Territorial Administration Minister on September 26, 2025 in a press conference said during his ministry’s investigations, “it uncovered a platform designed by certain corrupt opposition politicians dedicated exclusively to the fraudulent counting of ballots on the evening of October 12, 2025.” It emerged that some sophisticated telephones meant to fabricate election results in polling stations and supply the platform had been uncovered. The government official qualified the move as, “conspiracy theory approach by presidential candidates seeking to manipulate public opinion and proclaim truncated election results in their favour, in defiance of the laws in force that clearly define the competent authorities responsible for counting votes and announcing results.”                                                                                                                                   &...
