State House Reception : Historic Moment Of Communion With Compatriots

Thousands of state and foreign dignitaries converged on the Unity Palace yesterday evening for a memorable moment of rapprochement with the Head of State, President Paul Biya, and the First Lady, Chantal Biya.

The presidential couple yesterday evening offered a sumptuous reception at the State House to conclude an intense day in which President Paul Biya started off his 8th term of office.
Following the oath-taking ceremony earlier in the afternoon, the award of insignia as Grand Master of National Orders, and the presentation of the diplomatic corps and national dignitaries to the newly sworn-in President, the day’s official proceedings gracefully transitioned into the last phase, which was a moment of celebration.

The reception was an opportunity for the President and his spouse to share in a spirit of unity and gratitude with compatriots and friends of Cameroon, and also to celebrate the end of an electoral process that was largely successful.

The Banquet Hall of the Unity Palace served as the venue for the soirée. Guests from diverse backgrounds, including members of government, diplomatic representatives, traditional authorities, business leaders, and civil society figures, all answered present. They began arriving as early as 5:30 p.m when the gates of the Unity Palace were flung open. By 7:30 p.m., the hall was filled to capacity, radiating excitement and anticipation for the evening’s encounter with the Head of State.

At a few minutes past 8:00 p.m., President Paul Biya and First Lady Chantal Biya made their entry into the Banquet Hall, greeted by deafening applause, cheers, and ululations from the enthusiastic audience. Their presence set the tone for the evening, which unfolded in all elegance and conviviality.
