Diabetes Patients : New Eating Habits Working

As the world commemorates World Diabetes Day today, November 14, experts are emphasising the importance of heightened awareness and screening initiatives.
Dieudonné Pouambe, a spry 78-year-old, has been living with diabetes for 26 years. Mindful of his condition since he 52 years, he has adopted a daily routine that allows him to effectively manage his health. In his view, moderation is the key to maintaining a balanced diet. It is evident that individuals whose bodies are unable to regulate blood sugar levels effectively are successfully managing their diabetes through a combination of lifestyle adjustments, medication, and regular monitoring, thereby keeping their blood sugar levels under control.
Dieudonné Pouambe reveals that he has been managing his diabetes quite effectively, which allows him to enjoy a varied diet with minimal restrictions. “I have learned to avoid excesses” he emphasises. Mr Pouambe's typical day begins around 9:00 a.m, with a warm glass of lemon water, followed by breakfast, and then he takes his medication. He only consults his doctors when he is unwell. Mr Pouambe avoids sugary foods, including sweets and sugarcane, although he does indulge in a banana when his blood sugar levels are within a normal range. “I also enjoy an occasional bottle of alcohol,” he notes.
Etienne Belinga, aged 79, has been living with diabetes for approximately two decades and has adapted his lifestyle accordingly. He attributes his good health to a strict diet and adherence to his prescribed medication regimen. According to Belinga, it is essential for individuals with diabetes to be attuned to their body's specific needs and follow medical guidance. He notes that certain foods, such as avocado, may be problematic for some diabetics, whilst others may tolerate them without issue.
