Financial Inclusion : Campaign Targeting Vulnerable Groups Underway

The maiden edition of the Financial Inclusion and Consumer Protection of Financial Services Caravan (CIFIPRO 2025), took place in Buea from November 25 to 27, 2025.

Placed on the theme; “Savings, Last Mile Financial and Protection of the Consumer of Financial Services; Strategies and Opportunities, the initiative organized by the Ministry of Finance and its partners, sought  to narrow the persistent gap between major financial institutions and low-income populations, particularly those in remote communities and persons living with disabilities.  A central focus of CIFIPRO 2025 was the promotion of accessibility for persons with hearing impairments and the visually impaired, many of whom remain excluded from traditional financial channels. Organisers of this year’s event highlighted the introduction of a support scheme tailored to their needs, complete with adapted tools and sensitisation materials to facilitate their integration into the financial system. Besong Ben Ayuk, Unit Head of Microfinance Promotion Regulation and Monitoring at the Ministry of Finance at the end of the caravan noted that, CIFIPRO sought to understand the needs of the population with respect to financial inclusion, and also bring together various actors so that they will be able to understand the challenges of farmers and those living with disabilities. ‘‘These people are out to take their destinies into their hands. Some of them have productive schemes put in place by the association for visually impaired persons which is inclusive in nature. They were able to produce soap, oil and other products.
