Parliament : Eventful November Session

Besides examining and adopting legal instruments notably the 2026 draft State budget, the President of the Republic also took the oath of office before the legislators.
Thirty days of work in Parliament during the November session which just ended. Legislators during the session examined and adopted legal instruments, had working sessions and controlled government action. It was equally a memorial session as the President of the Republic took the oath of office on November 6 before the lawmakers and the Cameroonian people, following the proclamation of the results of the Presidential election.
With regards to document scrutiny, a total of seven bills were examined and adopted both at the National Assembly and at the Senate. Prominent amongst the legal instruments adopted was the State budget for 2026 which stands at FCFA 8,816.4 billion as balanced in income and expenditure. Government’s economic, financial, social and cultural programme as presented by the Prime Minister Head of Government during a plenary sitting at the National Assembly, highlights priority projects that will be implemented with the funds to the wellbeing of the population. Prior to examining the Finance Bill, the Settlement Bill for 2024 which contains details on how government generated funds and programmes executed, was equally analysed. All legal documents that were adopted in Parliament were first examined in the Committee concerned and later brought to the plenary sitting for general debates. Some of the bills adopted include; authorising the President of the Republic to ratify the agreement between Cameroon and Algeria on the exemption of visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and service passports, ratify the agreement on airport between Cameroon and Qatar and instituting the framework governing organic farming in Cameroon.
