State Budget For 2026 : Who Has What!

Through a Presidential decree of December 17, 2025, Paul Biya promulgated into law the legal instrument which contains the State budget for next year. CT dissects the vision.

Cameroon’s State budget for the 2026 financial year stands at FCFA 8,816.4 billion as balanced in income and expenditure. It is broken down thus; FCFA 8, 683.9 billion as the general budget and FCFA 132.5 billion for Special Appropriation Accounts. Next year’s budget witnesses an increase of FCFA 1,080.5 billion in absolute terms and 14 per cent in relative terms, from the State budget of 2025. The document that contains the State budget, and adopted by legislators during the November session of Parliament after deliberations, was promulgated into law by the President of the Republic, Paul Biya on December 18, 2025. 
The legal instrument contains in detail the different budgetary allocations of institutions of sovereignty and Ministries.  Financial allocations to institutions like the Presidency of the Republic, Prime Minister's Office, Economic and Social Council, Constitutional Council, Supreme Court, Elections Cameroon, and the National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism can be read therein. Growth rate is estimated at 4.3 per cent, an inflation rate at three per cent and planned activities are to render the economy more resilient and continue with the implementation of tactical programmes in the National Development Strategy 2030 of government. Labelled a socio-economic impact budget, it aims at strengthening economic growth and significantly improving the living conditions of the population. Emphasis, going by the document, will be placed on the social, educational, professional and economic development of youths and women, as desired by the President of the Republic. The main innovation in the Finance Law is the creation of a Special Fund to support women’s economic empowerment and promote youth employment.
The resources projected will be used for the completion and commissioning of first generational projects, accelerating the decentralisation process and continue the implementation of the reconstruction and development of the crisis-affected regions through instituted special plans. 
Specifically regarding the allocation to Ministries, the Ministry of Public Works has the largest budget which stands at FCFA 651,9 billion, and followed by the Ministry of Secondary Education and then Defence. This translates government’s determination to accelerating development by ensuring there are good roads, enhancing the literacy rate and protecting the territorial integrity of the country, which from every indication are the basic pillars for national growth, unity and social cohesion.
