The uncomfortable heat and dust-laden sky have rendered the atmosphere almost unbearable, prompting residents to adopt precautionary measures as they go about their daily routines.
In Yaounde, the day is off to a sunny start, with the sun's rays already radiating high above the horizon at about 5:30 a.m., heralding a day of intense sunshine. The partly cloudy sky, laced with dust, is a testament to the fierce sunlight. Climate experts attribute this to the ongoing dry season, which is set to continue in the entire Centre, East, and South Regions of the country from December 21 to 30, with isolated instances of sporadic rainfall expected in certain areas.
Consequently, the Capital City is experiencing a climatic period marked by sweltering days and chilly nights, with temperatures fluctuating between 21°C and 34°C, according to data from the National Observatory on Climate Change (NOCC). The sun is beating down relentlessly in all the nooks and crannies of the town of Yaounde, rendering the heat almost unbearable. As people struggle to navigate the streets, some have resorted to using umbrellas as a makeshift shield from the intense sunlight, while others wear face masks to protect themselves from the choking dust that fills the air. The discomfort of mask in a hot climate is their dilemma.
