ICT Misuse : Unveiling Dark Consequences `

The use of Information and Communication Technology, ICT tools in 2025 offered opportunities for communication, education, and self-expression amongst Cameroonians. Not without a darker reality: the misuse of ICT tools led to serious societal implications. From manipulation and digital forgery to the rampant sharing of indecent content and deep fakes, these practices exposed the private lives of individuals and eroded trust within communities.
Because of the heightened misuse of ICT tools in 2025, which was aggravated by politics and the October 12, 2025 presidential election campaign, various cabinet ministers had to caution social media users to exercise restraint. Warning that such abuse threatened the already fragile polity. 
August 2025 saw the weaponization of private content. Social media platforms became battlegrounds for reputation destruction as preparations heightened for the presidential election. Supporters of different candidates spent their time tarnishing the images of others to reduce their chances of winning the vote.
